Real Madrid legend and Ballon d’Or winner Kopa has passed away

Raymond Kopa, who played for Real Madrid between 1956 and 1959, passed away today at the age of 85. The Frenchman was one of the stars of his generation and at Real Madrid he was part of an exceptional group of forwards along with Rial, Puskas, Gento and Di Stéfano. Kopa won the European Cup in each of his three seasons with the Whites. He also won two La Liga titles and the Latin Cup.

Kopa was born in Noeux-Les-Mines (France) on the 13th October 1931, and played 103 games at Real Madrid, scoring 30 goals. The Frenchman was technically gifted, had great dribbling capability and was lethal in attack. He won the Ballon d’Or in 1958 for his achievements with Real Madrid, and was always among the final three in the first four editions of the award.
