Real Madrid are already working that in the coming months Vinicius Junior may have a Spanish passport and stop occupying extra space, something that would give more options to Zidane’s squad. The Whites need to empty the quota of non-European players to be able to accommodate players like Reinier and Kubo in future.
For this reason, the legal department of Real Madrid will begin next July to move the documentation so that Vinicius becomes Spanish in late 2020 or early 2021.
Vinicius has the advantage that he is only required to reside legally in Spain for two years. A requirement that will be fulfilled next month, just when he arrived in the capital of Spain and was presented as a white player.
To obtain nationality, Vinicius must complete the standard application form and accompany it with the relevant identification documents (foreign identity card, valid passport of the country of origin, birth certificate …). At the same time, you must provide the Instituto Cervantes Diploma of the constitutional and sociocultural knowledge test (CCSE) and the Spanish language knowledge test (DELE).
Once all the documentation is presented, the Ministry of Justice usually takes between five and six months to grant nationality. For this reason, Real Madrid expect Vinicius to be Spanish before the end of 2020, although they know that this would be at best and from the white entity they believe that the stoppage suffered by the coronavirus pandemic will slow everything down, or in the first months of 2021. However, the club’s intention is for Vini to stop occupying an extra-community position before the summer of 2021.
The last two Real Madrid players received the Spanish passport were Casemiro, whose procedures took longer than desired, and Fede Valverde, who stopped occupying an extra-community position last August. On the other hand, the club will have to wait a year to start the nationalization procedures for Rodrygo and Militao , while for Kubo the club does not have a similar option, since a Japanese citizen needs ten years of continuous residence to choose to have the Spanish passport.
On the other hand, Reinier, who has been residing in the national territory since last January, must wait until 2022 to start the proceedings, provided that he does not leave on loan to a foreign club, something that the club rules out.
