With the departure of Sergio Ramos, who in recent years had been the main freekick taker for Real Madrid, a set piece specialist is just what Los Blancos need and they may already have an unlikely candidate within their ranks.

Fede Valverde has never been renowned for taking freekicks, let alone scoring any, but that’s exactly what he did for Uruguay on Sunday.

The midfielder stepped up against Bolivia from the corner of the penalty and whipped a fine strike into the back of the net to put his side 2-0 up in a match that finished 4-2 in Uruguay’s favour.
