Walter Tavares will remain a Real Madrid player for the next five seasons. Since checking in at the club in November 2017, the Cape Verde-born center has played an instrumental role in the recent sucess enjoyed by Pablo Laso’s side, whilst also having estabilished himself as one of the most dominant centers in the European game. In the space of less than two years, Tavares has helped the team to lift four titles: one EuroLeague, two league crowns and a Super Cup. This season saw him named the best defender in the EuroLeague, whilst he made the league’s top five.
Tavares has made 148 appearances in Real Madrid colours. These have come in the form of 77 outings in the EuroLeague, 63 in the league, six in the Copa del Rey and two in the Super Cup. He also landed the EuroLeague MVP gong for October and was the leading blocker in the continental competition and domestically. Tavares, whograbbed 16 rebounds and made seven blocks in one game, is set to continue putting smiles on the faces of the madridista fans.
