Real Madrid have confirmed the extension of another player’s contract with Nacho Fernandez following in Toni Kroos‘ footsteps earlier this week.
The defender’s current deal is set to end in 2021 but an agreement has been reached to continue his stay at the Estadio Santiago Bernabeu until June 30, 2022.
Discussions have been ongoing throughout the season and have reached a conclusion in the last few days.
Zinedine Zidane has given the thumbs up to the move, as he is keen to keep Nacho as part of his defensive setup alongside Sergio Ramos, Raphael Varane and Eder Militao.
Injury concerns kept the Spaniard out for much of this season, with 2018/19 being the first in which he’s suffered such consistent problems.
Nacho arrived in the Real Madrid first team in 2011 under Jose Mourinho and his last renewal at the club came in 2014.
