Real Madrid demand Jules Kounde in Mariano Diaz deal

26 Dec 2021

Jules Kounde and Mariano Diaz are expected to be part of a part-exchange deal between Real Madrid and Sevilla.

Sevilla, according to Catalan outlet El Nacional, cannot afford Mariano Diaz’s asking price and are looking for a way to sign the out-of-favor Real Madrid forward. To that end, Los Merengues are proposing a Jules Kounde part-exchange deal, with the final details proving to be a sticking point between the two clubs.

Since joining Sevilla from Bordeaux over two years ago, Jules Kounde has established himself as one of Europe’s best defenders. The 23-year-old centre-rapid back’s rise at the Andalusian club drew interest from some of Europe’s biggest clubs, including Real Madrid.

Mariano Diaz, on the other hand, has struggled to make an impact since returning to Real Madrid from Lyon in August 2018. The 28-year-old has only made two appearances for Los Blancos this season, contributing one assist in his two appearances. Mariano, despite his minor role, has a plethora of suitors, including Sevilla.

According to recent reports, Los Nervionenses are close to signing Mariano from Real Madrid. Sevilla, however, cannot afford the €20 million price tag demanded by the current La Liga leaders, according to El Nacional, forcing them to seek an alternative solution.

Real Madrid may be able to offer one such solution, as they are demanding Jules Kounde as part of the deal, albeit at a cost to Sevilla. The next stumbling block is the Andalusian giants’ demand for a €60 million cash payment in addition to the exchange rate.

Real Madrid, on the other hand, will only accept €35 million in cash and consider the €60 million demand excessive. It goes without saying that the 23-year-old is a viable target for Real Madrid, given the lack of quality in the central defensive unit beyond Eder Militao and David Alaba.

Mariano could be a key signing for Sevilla, given Munir El Haddadi’s inconsistencies. However, with Real Madrid refusing to meet Sevilla’s €60 million demands, it remains to be seen whether a part-exchange deal will materialize, especially given Chelsea’s involvement.
