31 Mar 2017

Real Madrid will finally take the step in generating a women’s football section withing the structure of the club. The news was broken last night on the El Partidazo de Cope radio show. The initial plan is to work with junior level teams and at present there are no plans for the club to develop a professional side that would ultimately compete in the Liga Iberdrola (the Spanish women’s top flight category).

At present seven LaLiga Santander and two LaLiga 1|2|3 outfits have teams that play in the 16 team Liga Iberdrola, Governing body LaLiga have been active in pushing the women’s game and this season key matches have been played in larger stadia such as Mestalla or the Vicente Calderón which hosted last Sunday’s Atlético-Athletic match which attracted a crowd of more than 10.000.
