Real Madrid Castilla‘s hopes of securing promotion were ended as Cartagenacame from behind to win 2-0 in the second leg of the Segunda Division B play-off quarter-final.
Castilla had taken a 3-1 lead from the first leg of the semi-final into the second leg away at Cartagena, but strikes from Eladio Zorrilla and Miguel Angel Cordero saw the hosts move on to the semi-finals on away goals.
Castilla, who had Luca Zidane in goal, were a shadow of the team that won so convincingly last weekend and struggled against their fired-up hosts.
Cartagena netted two early goals and saw out the game as the visitors lost their composure with needless fouls and mistakes.
Unlike Castilla, Cartagena managed to find the net away from home during the tie and they are the ones who progress to the next stage.
The result means Castilla will spend another season in Spain’s third tier.
