Real Madrid has been tracking Chelsea centre-back Antonio Rudiger for some time, and it now appears that they are closer to signing him than ever before.
Since his arrival from Roma in 2017, the German international has been a stalwart for the London club, and he has improved his game under Thomas Tuchel, who does not want him to leave.
However, according to the Athletic, Rudiger is ready for a new challenge and has halted contract talks, allowing him to speak with foreign clubs starting January 1, 2022, and sign a deal to join on a free transfer in the summer.
According to sources, Rudiger’s current salary is 105,000 euros (90,000 pounds), but he wants closer to 230,000 euros (200,000 pounds).
With Chelsea and Rudiger unable to agree on a number that suits both parties, he appears to be on his way out, which will be good news for Real Madrid fans.
Rudiger’s contract with Chelsea may still be renewed, but he appears to be closer to leaving than ever.
Real Madrid supporters will be thrilled to see Rudiger line up alongside David Alaba and Eder Militao in the heart of their defense.
Militao has been in excellent form this season under Carlo Ancelotti, and Rudiger would have to make an immediate impression to unseat either the Brazilian or his Austrian centre-back partner.
Rudiger’s signing would provide Real Madrid with defensive cover, which they have lacked for the past few seasons. Ancelotti’s depth and talent would be enhanced by the addition of a player of the German’s caliber.
