LaLiga president Javier Tebas has insisted on moving the game between Villarreal and Atletico Madrid to the United States, but Real Madrid have expressed their opposition to his plan.
Los Blancos have sent a letter to the Spanish Football Federation (RFEF) to ask for the game to take place in Spain.
As happened last year, when LaLiga had the same plans for Girona‘s match against Barcelona, Real Madrid insist that moving the game to a neutral stadium will benefit one of the two teams.
The president of the RFEF, Luis Rubiales, has already made clear that he is against moving the match, while FIFA president Gianni Infantino confirmed that the football governing body can’t authorize a domestic league game to be played in another country.
FIFA haven’t changed their mind and have ruled out giving the thumbs up for the game to be moved to the US.
LaLiga have scheduled the game for Friday, December 6 at 22:00 CET, which would mean that it would take place at 16:00 in the afternoon in Miami.
The court will determine next Thursday whether it is possible the fixture to take place overseas.
