Real Madrid are the most-supported team in Spain, with a third of Spanish football fans claiming to back Los Blancos in a recent study.
32.4 percent of those questioned declared loyalty to the capital city side, while 24.7 percent said they support Barcelona.
According to AIMC, who carried out the study, Atletico Madrid are the third favorite, with 7.6 percent of football lovers aligning with Los Rojiblancos, while the top five was rounded off by Valencia supporters – 4.1 percent – and Athletic Club fans – 3.9 percent.
When it comes to second favourite teams, Atletico lead the way, with 4.6 percent following Los Colchoneros after their first love.
They are closely followed by the giants of LaLiga, with 4.4 percent and 4.3 percent labelling Real Madrid and Barcelona respectively as their second teams.
The study also investigated merchandise sales and it was revealed that 9.0 percent of Spaniards have purchased something from a football team, with Real Madrid responsible for 26.5 percent of those sales, ahead of Barcelona’s 21.3 percent share and Atletico’s 12.5 percent.
