FIFA have confirmed a new rule which would help the players when the football finally resumes.
The governing body has granted five substitutions in a game until the end of 2020. Moreover, in case of extra time in knockout competitions, an extra sixth substitution would also be possible for teams.
However, the substitutions in normal games can only take place in three designated slots – including the half-time – in a bid to avoid unnecessary stoppages to games.
FIFA add that if both teams make a substitution at the same time, this will count as one of the three slots for each team.
The main goal is to curb the risk of injuries for teams as players could suffer from extreme fatigue while playing a string of games after such a long period of inactivity.
