Despite Real Madrid’s season having failed to live up to expectations, there is one player who has always been reliable both on and off the pitch.
That’s Nacho Fernandez, with the Spanish defender having played the most minutes for the team this season.
Nacho didn’t play as much football in the 2016/17 season, but has become irreplaceable to Zinedine Zidane in this campaign and has already accumulated 2,347 minutes, which is more than Toni Kroos, Cristiano Ronaldo, Marcelo and Sergio Ramos have managed.
He has fulfilled a much needed multipurpose role this term and has played in multiple positions across the defensive line, often to fill in for an absentee teammate.
No matter what problem Zidane is faced with defensively, the answer is quite often Nacho, such has been his steady level of performance.
Not only has the academy graduate produced good performances consistently, he has also discovered his goalscoring touch, with the Spaniard having netted four goals this season.
Three came in LaLiga, including a brace in the 7-1 victory against Deportivo La Coruna, whilst the other was in the Champions League clash with APOEL.
