Luka Modric ended last season with a bad taste in his mouth following a disappointing campaign for Real Madrid.
This season, he wanted to right the wrongs and return to his best and, while the team has been on good form, he’s also found his feet again.
However, when it comes to the big matches, the Croatian isn’t appearing in the starting line-up.
He didn’t start against either Atletico Madrid, Paris Saint-Germain or Barcelona towards the end of the calendar year.
Modric missed Los Blancos’ first match with PSG due to injury before he could only make the bench against them in the return game in Madrid, against Atletico and in El Clasico.
A lot of this has been to do with the form of Fede Valverde, who has really impressed in his breakthrough season at the club.
Modric wants to rectify the situation and is working hard in each training session to prove that he should be starting in every game.
After all, he’s not been used to sitting on the bench during his seven and a half years at the Estadio Santiago Bernabeu.
Zinedine Zidane is pleased that Modric hasn’t accepted a place on the bench and opportunities are sure to arrive for the midfielder soon.
