Defeat to Real Betis on Wednesday evening ensured that Real Madrid are yet to win a home match in LaLiga this season, however former Los Blancos midfielder Martin Vazquez has reassured supporters that the season is very long and that calm is necessary in bad moments such as this.
The visit of the Andalusian club saw the defending champions’ goal-scoring problem rear its ugly head yet again, as over 20 shots were taken against Antonio Adan’s goal on Wednesday, yet the hosts didn’t convert a single one.
In an interview with A Diario, the 51-year-old made clear that despite the surprise result on Wednesday, there was no need for Zinedine Zidane’s team to panic.
“It isn’t normal for Real Madrid to drop three points at home, but the LaLiga season is very long and you have to be calm,” he explained.
Zidane’s team sits seven points adrift of title rivals Barcelona at this moment, but Vazquez is confident that they will bounce back and rediscover their home form.
“Real Madrid will know how to counteract this poor run and prevent such results happening again,” he stated.
There is a monumental amount of pressure on Los Blancos when they play at the Estadio Santiago Bernabeu, as was made clear by their kamikaze defending with the score at 0-0 on Wednesday evening.
The veteran Spaniard knows what that pressure feels like and admits it impacts the team’s performance.
“When you have a game at your place that is becoming complicated then it creates uneasiness and confusion amongst the players,” he intimated.
Next up for Real Madrid is a trip to Alaves, where they’ll look to return to winning ways.
