Marcelo: “Real Madrid is my home”

22 Apr 2019

Marcelo has had a very disappointing season, yet he looked back to his best against Athletic Club with a performance that showed he still has plenty to offer Real Madrid.

Following the return of Zinedine Zidane as head coach, the Frenchman has placed a lot of confidence in the Brazilian left-back, with it starting to pay dividends on the pitch.

In his post-match interview, Marcelo was keen to emphasize his happiness at Los Blancos.

“I’m going to leave, am I? I don’t need to talk about my future because everyone knows the happiness I show when I wear this shirt,” Marcelo told BeIN Sports.

Real Madrid is my home.

“You have to sweat for this shirt and keep this crest on the top [of the world]. I never stopped supporting my teammates, even when I wasn’t playing.”

Karim BenzemaMadrid‘s standout player this season, was able to continue his rich vein of form in front of goal as he sealed a second half hat-trick to lead Los Blancos to a 3-0 victory on Sunday afternoon.

“We all know the quality that Karim has, what he brings to the team, getting goals or not,” he added.

“He is one of the leaders of this team. I’m very happy about the goals, but Karim will be happier about the victory that we needed a lot, rather than the goals.”
