Lucas Vazquez: “In other years, Real Madrid lost the title at places like Osasuna”

11 Feb 2020

Lucas Vazquez believes that Real Madrid are succeeding where they’ve failed in previous years in terms of the race for the LaLiga Santander title.

The Spaniard came on to score Los Blancos‘ third goal as they beat Osasuna 4-1 at El Sadar, having gone behind early on.

“Yes, but it’s also won at the Bernabeu, the Camp Nou… everywhere. It’s about consistency,” Lucas responded when asked if titles are won at grounds like El Sadar.

“In other years, we struggled to win at these types of grounds and that’s where we threw away the league.

“We’re doing very well and we’re going to be there until the end.”

Lucas knows a win against Osasuna was important to banish the demons of the Copa del Rey exit to Real Sociedad on Thursday.

“It was an important game for us, more so after the blow of the Copa,” Lucas noted.

“I think the team has left a good impression. It’s really important in a difficult week.

“Winning in the way that we did says a lot about us.”

Real Madrid can now watch Sunday’s late kick-off between Real Betis and Barcelona knowing they already have a six-point lead at the top of the table.

“It would be amazing for us to be five or six points clear, but it won’t change anything,” Lucas added.

“We’re only looking to keep picking up three points. I will watch the game.”

Real Madrid will face another tough test in a couple of weeks’ time when Manchester City visit in the Champions League.

“Right now, we’re not thinking too much about that,” Lucas stated.

“It will be very difficult, but there’s still time to prepare for the tie.”
