Isco suffers injury a week before Madrid derby

The alarm bells are sounding at the Santiago Bernabéu after seeing Isco taken off in the second half against Costa Rica after being hit with a crunching tackle. Real Madrid play Atlético Madrid at the Wanda in the Madrid derby next Saturday and losing Isco would be a massive blow.

After 60 minutes of the friendly, the midfielder was struck down by Waston, who was booked for his effort. Isco tried to run it off but he decided it was better not to before Lopetegui decided to make the change. He was replaced by Marco Asensio. Morata said after the game that “it was just a knock” but assured that he believed it to be something small.

Isco was taken off and retreated to the dressing room to be assessed by the medical staff and physios. The news comes at an awkward time with Gareth Bale suffering another hamstring injury and several others either just recovered or still recovering from injuries in the Real Madrid squad.
