Isco: “No club is bigger than Real Madrid; I want to stay here”

16 Apr 2017

Isco was the main protagonist in the meeting between Sporting and Real Madrid. The midfielder scored twice, including a last-minute winner, and was by far the best man on the pitch at El Molinón. Afterwards, he made it clear that his intention is to stay at Real Madrid.

Was this your best game for Real Madrid? “I don’t know, it’s up to you, the press to decide. Whenever I go out onto the pitch, I always try to give my best to help the team. I’ve been lucky enough to have been decisive and I’m here to help my team mates. And it’s not just me, all of us are waiting for our opportunity”.

Do you see yourself in the starting XI in the Champions League on Tuesday? “I don’t know, the boss will decide. It’s true that I haven’t been playing a lot in the Champions League this season but the team is close to making the semi-finals. What’s important is making the next round, not who plays”.

Madrid never surrender: “It’s in the DNA of wearing this white shirt, and defending this club crest. We have shown it so many times. You don’t need to change what works”.

How can you calm the fans who are anxious about your future? “I’ve already said many times that I want to stay here for a long time and I hope that is what happens. I’ve always been clear about what I want. I want to stay here a long time and I can’t understand why people are so surprised that I want to play more. If I didn’t believe it, I wouldn’t say it”.

You didn’t celebrate your first goal much… “We were losing, it was the equaliser but I did celebrate the winner… well, anyway, I don’t want to cause any problems”.

Future: “I’m in the best team in the world, there is no club bigger than Real Madrid and I feel very fortunate to be here”.
