Alf-Inge Haaland, Erling Haaland’s father, also acts as the representative for the man of the moment. The Dortmund striker has scored 12 goals in his first nine games with the Bundesliga side. Alf-Inge played for Nottingham Forest, Leeds United and Manchester City and spoke about his own son’s future amidst growing interest from the footballing world: “I’m very happy for him and for Dortmund, although for me the most important thing is to keep growing like he has until now. Obviously, I’m proud.”
That pride is not misplaced with his 40 goals and eight assists this season. “Dortmund told us they needed someone like him and that the objective is to max out. This is a team fighting for the Bundesliga and will keep growing in European competition. It’s perfect for him to keep developing,” he said.
Real Madrid are currently mired in a goalscoring crisis (Isco is the top scorer in 2020 with three goals) and the Norweigan remains linked with the club as a solution to the problem. The 19-year-old has a release clause that would allow him to leave Dortmund in 2021 for €75 million. “We are linked with one hundred clubs, but it’s true that the Spanish league is a really good one for my son, with great teams. You never know if he will go to Spain. Whatever is meant to be will happen,” he said.
Goles de Haaland en la temporada 2019-2020
Martin Odegaard, who is having a sensational season himself with Real Sociedad, could return to Madrid this summer and Haaland says his son really enjoys playing with the attacking midfielder during their time with the national team. “My son loves playing with Martin, he is a great footballer. They understand each other really well on the field,” he said.
Haaland’s number this season are other-wordly with 40 goals in 31 games, 1.29 every game. He started scoring in the Austrian top flight and moved to Germany in January where he continued his fine form. The goals evade him with Norway, however, and he has not scored in two since making his debut in September. It tells you everything you need to know that his lack of goals in 66 minutes against Malta and 14 against Sweden is considered a drought.
