Guti mocks Griezmann and picks the players he thinks will be decisive in El Clasico

22 Oct 2020

Former Real Madrid midfielder Guti has made some eyebrow-raising comments at a LaLiga Ambassadors event, with the former Almeria and Real Madrid academy coach warming things up ahead of the Clasico that’ll take place on Saturday between Barcelona and Real Madrid at the Camp Nou.

The man who gave so much joy to Real Madrid fans with his talent as a player joked about Antoine Griezmann’s current situation, with the Frenchman not having had the best of times since his move from Atletico Madrid to Barcelona in the summer of 2019. Guti was asked which players he would sign for the two clubs involved in El Clasico and, given that he doesn’t want Barcelona to do well, he didn’t pick any new players for the Blaugrana.

“I’d sign Neymar and Kylian Mbappe for Real Madrid and for Barcelona I wouldn’t sign anyone, just for Griezmann to stay,” he said, laughing. Guti went on to make some more serious comments about this weekend’s crunch fixture, discussing who he thinks will make a difference in the match. “There are many great players in this game, but I’m going for the youngsters,” he said. “Surely It’ll be Ansu Fati at Barcelona and Vinicius at Real Madrid [who can make an impact]. They’re very talented players who are going to bring a lot to LaLiga.”

Finally, the Spaniard explained that he thinks it’s too early in the season for this Clasico to be so decisive in the title race. “It won’t determine who’ll win LaLiga, but it is an important match,” he said. “Mentally, if a player does well or a team wins, then it can do you good for what is still to come in LaLiga. It’s a test for both of these teams to see what level they’re at and to see what they can achieve this year.”
