Florentino Perez: “Together we will overcome this immense challenge”

18 Mar 2020

Real Madrid president Florentino Perez has issued an open letter to the club’s members and supporters.

With football across Europe suspended due to the coronavirus, Perez stressed the importance of staying at home to contain the outbreak as much as possible.

The full letter is as follows:

First of all, I hope that you and your family are well in the face of these exceptional and difficult circumstances that we are experiencing in our country and around the world.

I also want to express, on behalf of all Madrid fans, my solidarity with those families directly hit by this pandemic. All of our strength and courage is with you as you try to overcome your pain.

As you have been coming to learn through our various communication channels, all the measures and precautions have been taken to help in the prevention of the spread of the coronavirus. The club have complied with all legal provisions and with the additional recommendations of the health authorities.

Real Madrid have suspended sporting activity, both training and matches.

The offices at the Bernabeu and the Bernabeu Tour have been closed and all of our activities cancelled.

It is for this reason that it’s time to stay united and strong in our values that have been so essential in Real Madrid’s 118-year history.

Now is the time to stress the values of solidarity, and rigorously following the instructions of the authorities and, most importantly, it’s time to stay home.

Real Madrid continue to function and are still open to our members online.

I want to thank you all for your understanding. We are part of the best club in the history of football, a Real Madrid who never give up and represent the sentiments of millions of people around the world.

Together we will overcome this immense challenge.

Today, more than ever, I send my best wishes to you and your family. Take good care of yourselves and I hope that soon we can return to normality.

We’ll do it together and with the certainty that we will enjoy Real Madrid again with the same passion and dreams as always.

This feeling is our greatest strength.

A hug,

Florentino Perez.
