Five reasons why Real Madrid should sign Mbappe ahead of Haaland

28 Mar 2020

Real Madrid have lacked a marquee star, a true reference point both on and off the pitch, since Cristiano Ronaldo departed for Juventus in 2018.

With the club heading towards the summer of 2020 here are five reasons why Kylian Mbappe should be signed as the heir to Ronaldo in Madrid, ahead of Erling Haaland.

1. It would fulfill a dream for the player

One of the aspects that a star should always want to fulfill is a desire to play for Real Madrid. Mbappe has already shown that multiple times, and this should be taken into consideration by the club.

2. He hasn’t signed a contract renewal with PSG

Those in power at the Santiago Bernabeu have been keeping a keen eye on proceedings with regards to Mbappe’s contractual situation in Paris.

He has thus far been unwilling to sign an extension with the club, and the summer of 2020 could be key if the player still hasn’t signed by then as it would force the Parisian club to listen to offers and Real Madrid would be best placed to test their resolve.

3. He’s a world star

Real Madrid has always looked at the sporting performance of a player ahead of anything else, but it would be a lie to say the commercial aspect of a signing isn’t at all taken into account.

In a short period of time the sport will lose two of its huge stars in Lionel Messi and Ronaldo, and Mbappe is the best place to take the mantle from the aforementioned duo and be at the forefront of the game, more so than he is already.

4. He’s got an unconditional love for Zinedine Zidane

If the Frenchman remains coach at Real Madrid, it would be an essential point to convince Mbappe to join. He idolizes the former Juventus midfielder and he could bring out the very best of the player.

5. He’s not a central number nine, but he guarantees goals

The French forward has different characteristics to Haaland and needs space to take advantage of his qualities, but he isn’t a center-forward.

Despite this, he still guarantees a high number of goals with his current tally for the season standing at 30 in all competitions.
