It’s abundantly clear, and has been for a while, that Real Madrid need to sign a center-forward who is capable of defining an era.
A player who can establish himself as one of the truly great players for the foreseeable future, and that bet should be on Erling Haaland.
Here are five clear reasons as to why Los Blancos should bring him to Madrid in July.
1. He’s a scoring machine
It’s almost impossible to remember a player who has broken into elite football in the manner Haaland has.
He has scored 40 goals this season divided between Red Bull Salzburg and Borussia Dortmund. He even scored nine goals in one match during the Under-20 World Cup. He’s a predator in the penalty area and that’s something which Real Madrid don’t have.
2. He’s young and hungry
Haaland is only 19 years old, the performances he’s putting forward at this age are nothing short of phenomenal. However, in addition to being extremely young he’s a hungry football. He is showing that in Germany where he made the forward position his own upon arrival.
3. He’s on the market at a reasonable price
Unlike Kylian Mbappe, the Norwegian forward can be signed for a completely reasonable fee in the current market. Dortmund signed him in the knowledge they would have to negotiate if one of Europe’s elite clubs came calling.
His current contract has a release clause of around 75 million euros, which is a figure that Los Blancos could reach without a second thought. This makes him a much easier player to sign than Mbappe.
4. He’s scored 10 goals in the Champions League
Many were quick to play down Haaland’s goalscoring exploits whilst he was playing in Austria, but the fact remains that he has scored 10 goals in the elite competition in European football.
Only Robert Lewandowski has scored more Champions League goals than Haaland this term, and he is ahead of Lionel Messi, Cristiano Ronaldo, Neymar and Mbappe. He has shown he is able to perform on the biggest stage at such a young age.
5. He wouldn’t be incompatible with Mbappe
Signing Haaland is easier than bringing Mbappe to the Spanish capital, but the two players could play together.
Real Madrid could form a fearsome forward line if they were to sign both, and the Frenchman actually plays his best football when there is a central goalscorer next to him.
