Thibaut Courtois has always been among the favourites to replace Keylor Navas as Real Madrid goalkeeper and he continues to have plenty of backing among the club’s hierarchy now.
The chances of the Belgian moving to the Bernabeu have ebbed and flowed depending on new deals, the backing of the present custodians or simply due to a lack of agreement such as the case with Kepa.
In the last few weeks, due to the progress in other negotiations and recent reports, Courtois has become the prime target, not taking into consideration his present performances or his cost.
Roma do not need to make more money after selling Nainggolan to Inter and they are not reducing their asking price for Alisson from 70 million euros.
Courtois’ agent Christophe Henrotay is in contact with Madrid and there is a good relationship and he has been open that the goalkeeper does not want to renew his deal with Chelsea, which ends in a year.
Atletico Madrid are also following what is happening as Real realise and so want to move a deal along as quickly as possible. Oblak is yet to renew his contract and so Atletico could look at Courtois returning if a deal is not reached.
