€100m or €160m? Real Madrid deny having to pay extra for Hazard’s transfer

06 Sep 2020

According to reports by Belgian outlets Het Laatste Nieuws and La Derniere Heure, Real Madrid could end up paying €160m for Eden Hazard’s transfer from Chelsea in 2019.

As revealed by Marca, the reports have claimed that Los Blancos may have to pay more than the €100m agreed upon last year because of an alleged fraud case involving his former club Tubize, which could cause his fee to rise.

They go on to add that Madrid may have to spend €40m in 2019, €56m in 2020 and €64m in 2021.

However, Marca notes that our club have denied such rumours. Given our financial troubles at the moment, we cannot take on such a huge risk anytime soon.

As things stand, Hazard is yet to reach his true potential with Real Madrid, but all we can hope for is that day isn’t too far.
