Just when Antonio Conte was set to become Real Madrid‘s new coach, the Italian’s potential move to the club has become complicated.
There has been a deadlock in negotiations with the former Chelsea boss and, all of a sudden, the names of Santiago Solari and Roberto Martinez are back on the table.
President Florentino Perez will meet with the Real Madrid board on Monday afternoon, when Julen Lopetegui‘s sacking is expected to be finalised.
They’ll then study the candidates to come in and to take over the Santiago Bernabeu dugout.
Conte had been the favourite, but the complications that have arisen during negotiations mean that Castilla coach Solari or Belgium coach Martinez could now be considered.
While it’s not clear who the next permanent coach will be, it does seem likely that Solari will take charge of the team for Wednesday’s Copa del Rey fixture in Melilla.
Whether or not he stays on as first-team coach remains to be seen.
