Real Madrid have started negotiations with their football and basketball players over wages cuts, as per Cadena SER.
The club now have two options on how to deal with this matter:
- A 12% wages cut if the season continues.
- A 20% wages cut if the season is cancelled.
Last week, La Liga urged all Spanish clubs to agree on furlough and the Spanish government have already given permission to Barcelona to cut their members’ salaries and grant them leave of absence as a result of the coronavirus.
They have been joined by Espanyol and Deportivo Alaves, while Atletico Madrid’s permission is expected to arrive later this week.
President Florentino Perez and club captain Sergio Ramos had initially met to discuss the matter and agreed that there was no need for pay cuts. However, despite being more financially stable than our La Liga rivals, Los Blancos will probably have to follow suit as well.
Real Madrid cover the salaries of 800 different people and if the football break extends even longer, they will be forced to take these drastic measures.
