Bernabeu works progress quickly: The latest on the roof, restaurant and capacity

27 Dec 2021

Behind the scenes, work at the Santiago Bernabeu is continuing, with construction companies hoping to make the most of the 20 days without a game. Real Madrid’s last home game was against Cadiz on December 19, and they will not play in front of their own fans again until January 8, when they face Valencia.

A Galactico restaurant

The construction of a new restaurant on Paseo de la Castellana is one of the most recent developments.

It was revealed recently about this restaurant, which will be built within the ground with spectacular views through the glass windows.

While the actual restaurant is not yet being built, they are working on the structure that will house it. A major construction beam, as well as the foundation for a sky bar, is currently being constructed.

Increasing the capacity, potentially in time for PSG

Work is also ongoing on the stadium’s stands, particularly in the north-east corner, where a large number of seats have been covered and blocked off.

These could even be ready for regular use in time for PSG’s Champions League match on March 9.

The tarpaulins should remain on the south and west sides, and the lower areas will still be blocked off.

Work on the Bernabeu roof

The roof is also being worked on constantly and good progress is already achieved.

In fact, there is even a chance that the stadium could be covered again in time from the start of next season.

Summer might bring the exterior

One of the ways the new Bernabeu will stand out is through the exterior covering, which will be made of steel and built in Cadiz by Acerinox.

There is hope that it can be put in place at the venue at the end of next summer. That’s ambitious, but not impossible.

The car park is on its way

An underground parking garage is being built, and the team buses may be able to use it later this season.

Even if fans will not be able to see this development, the level is ready and connections have been established, so it could be used soon.
