Belmadi: “If Mourinho or Guardiola had won three Champions Leagues in a row, we’d be calling them geniuses”

31 Jul 2020

Djamel Belmadi, the head coach of the Algerian national team, believes that Zinedine Zidane deserves more respect.

The Frenchman guided Real Madrid to the LaLiga Santander title this season to add to his collection of silverware as a coach.

“I admire Guardiola, KloppZidane… let’s not forget Zidane is a great coach,” Belmadi told L’Equipe.

“If Mourinho or Guardiola had won the Champions League three times in a row, we’d be calling them geniuses.

Zidane is a genius, even if he’s not revolutionized the game.

“On the other hand, we talk about the philosophy of some coaches who have never won anything.

“What a moment – what is it that we want?

“Do we judge people by winning or by the best philosophy?

“The fans expect you to win.”
