David Beckham’s Inter Miami are preparing to make waves in the summer transfer window.
The side are due to start in Major League Soccer in 2020 and are hoping to have some big names to help them make their bow.
Beckham and his backroom staff have already chosen Diego Alonso – formerly of Valencia, Atletico Madrid, Malaga and others – to take the job of coach.
“The ambition is to win the league in the first year and from the second it’ll become an obligation,” Alonso has said already.
MLS do allow for three franchise players to arrive who needn’t adhere to the salary limit, and the club are working on signings.
This has led them to turn their attention towards Real Madrid’s Luka Modric – whose contract ends in 2021 – and Paris Saint-Germain’s Edinson Cavani who is into the last six months of his deal.
But the 2020 season starts in March in the United States, making the arrival of their targets unlikely by then.
The club are also handicapped by their new stadium, Miami Freedom Park, still hasn’t seen light and they’ll play their first two seasons at the Lockhart Stadium.
