Bale left the stadium early with Real Madrid 4-1 down

07 Feb 2020

Injury kept Gareth Bale out of Zinedine Zidane‘s squad for the 4-3 Copa del Rey quarter-final defeat to Real Sociedad, yet the Welsh international has risked further ire amongst his own fanbase by leaving the stadium 15 minutes before the end of the match.

The scoreline was 1-4 in favour of La Real heading into the final 15 minutes, yet Bale opted to depart early without seeing whether his teammates could mount a heroic comeback, which they almost did.

Fans around the ground believed that Real Madrid could do it and the atmosphere after the hosts scored a second goal suggested as much.

Bale, though, has made a habit of leaving Los Blancos matches early when he isn’t involved, and it has hardly helped repair his relationship with fans.

There is no doubt that the former Southampton academy graduate is totally disconnected from the team, having spent four successive matches outside of the matchday squad, and it doesn’t look like he will regain his place in the team any time soon if this attitude remains.
