The injured Gareth Bale was in attendance at the Estadio Bernabeu to watch his Real Madrid teammates faced Leganes on Wednesday night.
Real Madrid thrashed Los Pepineros 5-0, though the Welshman didn’t stick around to see the entirety of the rout. Instead, Bale left after 82 minutes, missing Luka Jovic’s goal.
His actions don’t go against Real Madrid‘s internal policy which states that if players are at games, they mustn’t leave before the 80th minute. If they do, they are fined.
So even though he complied with the club’s regulations, he was unable to congratulate his teammates on a momentous win.
After the game Real Madrid coach Zinedine Zidane himself was asked about Bale‘s early exit.
“I spoke to him in the dressing room,” Zidane said. “If he left early, it’s because he has permission to do so.”
Real Madrid also allowed Bale to travel to London earlier in the week, for reasons unknown, though he did hold a 40 minute meeting with his agent in the British capital.
Bale does have history of arriving late or leaving the stadium early when he is not called into the Real Madrid squad, as was documented numerous times last season.
