No stranger to controversy, former Real Madrid defender Alvaro Arbeloa capitalized on the occasion of 1,000 days since Los Blancos won their first of three consecutive Champions League titles to hit back at Gerard Pique’s latest criticisms of the club.
The Barcelona man slammed the Madrid club’s complaints about refereeing earlier in the week, sparking the row.
“It happens in basketball and in football,” he said after Barcelona’s 0-0 draw with Lyon.
“Then they go to the Estadio Wanda Metropolitano and they’re quiet for a while after what happened there.
“It’s a good thing they don’t do other sports, like handball or hockey, as they’d complain about those too.”
Now, Arbeloa has replied via an Instagram post on a special occasion for Madridistas across the globe.
“1,000 days reigning Europe, more than 100 years as the best team in the world, what about more sports!” he posted.
