Alaba: “Real Madrid were at the top of my list of priorities”

Real Madrid, at least in personnel terms, have already replaced Sergio Ramos by adding veteran defender, David Alaba to their ranks on a free transfer, and the Austrian has admitted that a move to the Estadio Santiago Bernabeu was always his first choice.

Alaba elected to leave Bayern Munich on a free transfer after years of service to the Bavarian club, joining back in 2008.

Throughout his career in Germany he won two Champions League trophies and 10 Bundesliga titles, as well as cementing himself as one of the world’s best performing defenders.

Real Madrid were at the top of my list of priorities and I decided to go there,” Alaba explained in a press conference ahead of Austria vs Italy.

Austria have never before reached the knockout stage of the European Championship, and will be looking to cause an upset by defeating one of the best performing teams at the tournament in Italy.

“It’s a special game, not only for me, but for the whole team and the entire country,” Alaba added.

“The players come up and ask me how to deal with some situations, but there are also footballers in this team who have played at the highest level. I’m not worried because we are a team with a lot of quality.”
