Agent: “Bale not going anywhere”

09 Jan 2020

Gareth Bale’s agent, Jonathan Barnett, has ruled out his client’s exit from Real Madrid during the January transfer window, while also stating that a summer move is also “very unlikely” for the Welshman.

After a move to China fell through last summer, Bale remained at the Bernabéu, where he has struggled with injury and form this season amid intensified animosity towards him from both the Spanish press and Real Madrid fans over the controversial incident involving the “Wales.Golf.Madrid” flag.

The 30-year-old winger has started only ten of all 26 competitive fixtures this season, registering just two goals, which both came against Villarreal back on September 1.

But despite the Wales international’s situation, his agent assured that he would not be leaving in January, while also playing down speculation he would move on in the summer. Bale’s current deal at the Bernabéu expires in June 2022, with his last extension signed in October, 2016.

Bale not leaving Real Madrid – Barnett

“Bale is not going anywhere in winter and in summer he is very unlikely to leave,” Barnett told ESPN, adding that the Madrid player was also not interested in a move to Major League Soccer, where, along with a return to the Premier League, he has recently been linked.

As the rest of his Real Madrid team mates prepare for the Spanish Super Cup Final in Saudi Arabia after they beat Valencia in the semi-final in Jeddah on Wednesday, Bale has remained in Madrid due to a chest infection, according to a club medical report.

It was the first time in a year that Madrid had issued a medical report on the Welshman, who usually opts to keep his medical record private.

The Cardiff-born player is expected to return to availability for Los Blancos’ crunch LaLiga clash with Sevilla on January 18 following the Super Cup Final this Sunday in Jeddah.
