As many as 20 years have passed since the day that Raul Gonzalez celebrated his equalizer against Barcelona at the Camp Nou by silencing the home crowd.
After scoring Real Madrid‘s first goal, the forward also netted their second with four minutes to go to make it 2-2, after Savio‘s pass in behind the Blaugrana defence.
“It was the circumstances of that moment, of that game,” Raul explained.
“It is clear that this image, that photograph [of my finger-to-mouth celebration] has been written in history, but my relationship with the Barcelona players, the club and the fans has been of great respect.
“However, there are moments that on the pitch, with the tension, made me to do that.
“It stayed there and I leave it as something of an anecdote.”
